Quaintance (file): “It has been
a great opportunity”
MONTICELLO – Jay Quaintance has been SUNY Sullivan interim president for about a year and he initially took the job as a stop-gap until the Board of Trustees selects a permanent leader. He is now interested in staying on.
Quaintance told the Government Services Committee of the Sullivan County Legislature on Thursday that he has put his name in the hat for the top job.
“It has been a great opportunity,” he said. “The school is in a tremendous position to grow.”
College officials are also working up the 2017-18 academic year budget
including the possibility of increased costs.
“One of the things we are kicking around, and I know a number of the other community colleges are looking at is a potential increase in tuition,” Quaintance said. “We are in the process of evaluating whether or not the three percent makes sense or other schools are going as high as five or seven percent, but we don’t want to price ourselves out of the market.”
As construction continues on the Resorts World Casino and the Veria Spa,
SUNY Sullivan is considering coursework to prepare future employees for
the available jobs.
