POUGHKEEPSIE – A 27-year-old Poughkeepsie man has been arrested
and charged with hitting another person in the face with a brick causing
substantial facial injuries including lacerations and broken bones, the
Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reported on Monday.

At about 3:40 in the morning on Saturday, April 29, Police Sergeant Neil
Stuart witnessed part of the assault on Main Street in the city.

The suspect, later identified as Chad Smith, was chased on foot and apprehended
on Cannon Street where he was charged with felony assault.

Police said the relationship between the assailant and victim is unclear.

Smith was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of
$10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

In an unrelated case, Sgt. Stuart attempted to stop a vehicle with a headlight
out at 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 30. The driver failed to comply on Washington
Street, but eventually stopped.

The driver, Frederic Mann, 31, of Poughkeepsie, was found to be driving
with a suspended license and a prior DWI conviction within the last 10
years.

Mann was charged with felony DWI because of a prior conviction, operating
a vehicle without an interlock device and unlawful fleeing a police officer,
both as misdemeanors, and several traffic infractions.

He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail
or $20,000 bond.
