SAUGERTIES – A house rented
at 101 Manorville Road in the Town of Saugerties was used Friday night
for a post-prom party where underage youths drank alcoholic beverages.
As a result of an investigation by Saugerties Police, 34 students from
Wallington, New Jersey High School, ranging in age from 17 to 19, were
charged with the violation of underage drinking.
They were all processed and released on appearance tickets returnable
to Saugerties Town Court. Further criminal charges are pending.
Police Chief Joseph Sinagra reminded all Ulster County residents that
as the prom and graduation season approaches, it is illegal to host parties
that provide alcoholic beverages under the county social host law.
“Please help us have a year with no student-related fatalities,
because someone simply thought it was OK to provide alcohol to those less
than 21 years of age at such events,” Sinagra said.
