Crumbling Kingston sidewalk

KINGSTON – The state transportation department has granted the City of Kingston over $1.3 million in its Safe Routes to School program. The money will see new sidewalks constructed along the entire length of Henry Street from Wall Street to Broadway.
The sidewalks receive a lot of foot traffic because of the nearby George Washington Elementary School, said Mayor Steven Noble.
“Because so many youths walk on this street and it is also an important corridor for people who live in Midtown to be able to get between school and Broadway, this grant is going to help us re-do sidewalks all the way from Broadway to Wall Street,” he said.
The grant will provide funding of 80 percent of the project costs.
