MONTICELLO – A Monticello woman, who reported her SNAP benefit (food stamp) card, has been charged with selling it for $80.
Detectives from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received a call on the department’s confidential tips line that Melissa Strain, 26, had sold the card, even after she reported it stolen to the county Department of Family Services.
Strain was arrested on felony charges of misuse of a benefits card and making a false sworn instrument, and a misdemeanor of criminal use of a benefit card.  She was released on $250 bail pending a future court appearance.
