Spano briefs city council members
YONKERS – Mayor Michael Spano unveiled his proposed Yonkers city
budget for next year, which comes in at $1.10 billion, slightly less than
the 2017 budget of $1.14 billion.
The spending plan includes a $561.8 million municipal operating budget and a $539.5 million Board of Education budget.
Spano’s proposed budget, which is subject to review and approval by the city council, would eliminate most vacant positions, but does not contain any municipal layoffs; proposed an 0.27 percent increase in the property tax levy – the lowest in 20 years; keeps the city within the state mandated two percent tax cap; and provides the largest contribution to the board of education in the city’s history.
Spano called the budget “a lean, balanced budget that strives to continue the progress we have made, with greater efficiencies and savings while staying within the confines of the state-mandated property tax cap.”
