WOODBOURNE – The state
Department of Environmental Conservation is continuing to monitor the
Neversink River following a Friday spill of 475 gallons of heating oil
near the intersection of routes 42 and 52 in Woodbourne.
The oil spilled when two heating oil tanks failed.  Oil entered a floor drain, the DEC said.
No drinking water supplies were impacted and the spill occurred below the New York City reservoir system.
A sheen was observed for about a half-mile along the river, but DEC officials said with rainfall and snowmelt in the area, it was expected to dissipate quickly without impacting fishing or the ecology of the river.
If anyone notices any further impacts, they are encouraged to call the DEC hotline at 844-DEC-ECOS (844-332-3267).
