TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A Town of Poughkeepsie man was arrested on April 3 following an incident in which a police officer was assaulted.
Town Police said on Friday that officers were called to a business at 40 Vassar Road for a customer causing a disturbance.   An officer located Robert McCoy, Jr., 37, who was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, which was in the plaza parking lot.  The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol when he talked to McCoy and during the interview, McCoy began to drive away, dragging the officer a short distance.
McCoy entered the roadway, traveled on several roads and failed to comply with an attempt by officers to stop him. During that time, McCoy’s vehicle struck a detective’s car, causing minor injury to the officer. He continued to drive to his residence, where he parked his car in the backyard and was arrested.
McCoy was charged with reckless endangerment, assault and criminal mischief, all as felonies, as well as misdemeanors for resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and obstructing governmental administration. He was also charged with DWI and several traffic tickets.  He is in to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
