STATEN ISLAND – The Reinauer
barge that ran aground in the Hudson River off Catskill this week is back
at its Staten Island home port and following a dive and internal inspection,
was given a clean bill of health on Friday, Reinauer company officials
said. It showed no damage to the hull.
The RTC 150 barge was being transported by tugboat Meredith Reinauer northbound to Albany with its cargo of 60,000 barrels of refined gasoline.
It ran aground in heavy fog.
“We continue to fully cooperate with the Coast Guard in its investigation and will take all steps to be certain it does not happen again,” said company Vice President Bert Reinauer. “The fact that our vessel is double-hulled, together with the careful, quick response of our crew avoided any leakage of fuel and any harm to the environment.”
