Putnam traffic stop nets Pennsylvania fugitive with stolen gun, drugs

PHILIPSTOWN – A Hop Bottom, Pennsylvania man is in the Putnam County Jail following his arrest for a traffic violation on Route 9 in the Town of Philipstown.
Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a car driven by Benjamin Franklin Stine, IV, 24, for having an excessively loud muffler. He was allegedly found in possession of a stolen and loaded .32 caliber revolver, an illegal gravity knife, hypodermic needles and quantities of substances suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana.
A computer check following the March 22 traffic stop also revealed Stine was wanted on a bench warrant issued in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania for a probation violation.
Putnam County authorities charged Stine with felony criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property. He was also charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, two misdemeanor counts of drug possession, a violation of unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic infractions.
The top felony gun county carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in state prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
Stine was placed in to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
