WHITE PLAINS – A Greenburgh man faces up to 15 years in state prison following his conviction on a charge of attempted rape. Juan Sumba Duchi, 31, was also convicted in Westchester County Court last week of assault, for which he could receive a maximum of seven years in prison. When sentenced, both sentences are expected to run concurrently.
The conviction stems from an incident at about 10 p.m. on December 22, 2015 when he drove his ex-girlfriend in his vehicle to an isolated parking lot in White Plains and demanded that she have sex with him.   When she refused, the victim begged Duchi to take her home at which time he became enraged and attacker her, breaking her nose and then attempting to rape her in the car. The victim fought Duchi off and managed to get out from under him escaping from the vehicle. He then grabbed, kicked and punched her while she lay on the ground. While stomping on the victim, he broke her collarbone.
A passerby heard screams and called 911.  Two other people who were in the vicinity came to the woman’s aid and pulled Duchi off her.
The police arrived within minutes and arrested him.
