PUTNAM VALLEY – The Putnam
County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Dutchess County man on several
charges after he allegedly threatened a sheriff’s deputy and a state
trooper with a box cutter following a disturbance in Putnam Valley.

Police were called to an altercation at a residence on Lake Drive in Lake
Peekskill shortly after 10 p.m. on March 27.

Near the residence police encountered one of the persons involved, identified
as Mark Tomkins, 36, of Holmes.

Tomkins, who police said appeared to be intoxicated, became hostile and
allegedly drew a box cutter from his waistband and brandished it toward
the deputy and trooper. Tomkins was ordered repeatedly to drop the weapon
and he eventually complied, but he then allegedly resisted arrest and
had to be subdued.

He was charged with menacing a police officer and criminal possession
of a weapon, both as felonies, obstructing governmental administration
and resisting arrest, both as misdemeanors and a violation of disorderly
conduct. The felonies are punishable by up to seven years in state prison.

Tomkins was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail
or bond.
