GOSHEN – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded two grants from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
A grant of $50,000 will be used to develop an explosive detection canine
team to supplement the existing K-9 teams and replace a team that will
be retiring.  The sheriff’s office will purchase a dog and
K-9 equipped patrol car with the grant.
A grant of $100,000 will focus on improving tactical team capabilities as well as help develop new response capabilities as they relate to high-risk incidents including active shooter events and counter-terrorism missions.  The grant will fund rappelling gear, tactical headsets, an ATF explosive magazine for storage and training of tactical team members.
