TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A 44-year-old Newburgh man is recuperating in
Westchester Medical Center after he was struck on Route 17K at D’Alfonso
Road in the Town of Newburgh while riding his bike.

Frederick Scott was peddling going westbound from the City of Newburgh
into the town at around 8:48 p.m. on Tuesday in the pouring rain and foggy
conditions when he apparently veered into the road to avoid a culvert
and was struck by a car going in the same direction.

Scott was initially taken by Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance to St.
Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and later transferred to Westchester for
further treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle, a 58-year-old Pine Bush man was cleared of
any wrongdoing. Police said Scott was wearing all black clothing and had
no light or reflectors on his bike.
