Private sector job growth continues in the region

ALBANY – The counties of Greene, Sullivan and Columbia experienced
the greatest job growth in the Hudson Valley/ Catskills region in the
12 months ending in February.

The state labor department reported jobs grew by 3.8 percent in Greene
County, by 3.2 percent in Sullivan County and by 3.1 percent in Columbia
County.

The Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area saw a 1.1 percent growth in
jobs while the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division had a job loss of
0.2 percent. The two-county area added 300 manufacturing jobs to its mix.

The Hudson Valley overall saw jobs rise by 7,400, or 1.0 percent, to 767,400.

Jobs were added in education and health services; professional and business
services; other services; and trade, transportation and utilities. Job
losses were mostly centered in leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing.
