WASHINGTON – Congresswoman
Nita Lowey (D, NY-17) assembled officials from a number of human services
organizations on Wednesday to demonstrate what Trumpcare cuts would do
to their agencies.

Cuts to Meals on Wheels would reduce the number of seniors the Rockland
County program serves, said its president, Dr. Donald Hammond.

Ossining Town Supervisor Dana Levenberg said her town’s senior nutrition
program serves over 150 people daily and a loss in federal aid would have
an adverse impact on it.

“The federal dollars, approximately $54,000 in 2016 in Ossining
that support these 150 seniors provide about 10,000 meals annually,”
she said. “Without this money we would find it difficult, if not
impossible to ensure the food security of our senior population. This
would be a catastrophic loss to not just these seniors but to all of us
who are invested in their wellbeing,” she said.
Other programs that would suffer under the Republican plan include the
HOME Investment Partnership Program and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance
Program, both of which are vital to the community, said Lowey.
