Lt. Carrion

NEWBURGH – In the wake of the retirement of Newburgh Police Chief
Daniel Cameron, Lt. Richard Carrion has been named officer in charge of
the city department for the time being.

Because he does not have the requisite two year minimumas a lieutenant
to qualify to take the civil service exam for chief, he cannot be named
acting chief. His lieutenant title remains the same, although he is in
charge of the department.

A civil service test for chief will be administered on Saturday (tomorrow).
Four people who meet the requirements to be chief are signed up to take
the exam. None of them are current members of the Newburgh City Police
Department.

It will take several weeks for the tests to be graded and scores returned
to the Newburgh Civil Service Office.

There must be at least three candidates with passing grades for the list
to be tapped and those who passed be polled as to their interest in the
job.

The entire process will take several months.
