KINGSTON – A Saugerties man pled guilty in Ulster County Court
on Friday to a charge of murder for intentionally killing his girlfriend.

Jury selection was set to begin Monday in the trial of Karon Bowden, 42,
originally from Brooklyn, in the murder of 25-year-old Amy Louise Burger.

Saugerties Police received a 911 call on May 31, 2016 that was disconnected.
Two officers went to Burger’s residence at 26 Randall Court and
arrived just as Bowden shot Burger. Police believe she was shot in the
face at close range with a 9 mm handgun.

Bowden had lived with Burger for more than three years and evidence revealed
she had decided to break off the relationship.

Saugerties Police were assisted in their investigation by the State Police,
Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Kingston City Police and Ulster
County District Attorney’s Office.

The case was being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney and Special
Victims Bureau Chief Katherine Van Loan. Bowden was represented by Daniel
Gaffney.

Bowden, who has a prior felony for selling drugs, is scheduled to be sentenced
in May.
