WASHINGTON – Congressman John Faso of Kinderhook, a member of the Republican majority, is weighing the potential pros and cons of scrapping Obamacare and opting for a new plan, tentatively named the American Health Care Act by GOP advocates
The freshman lawmaker said the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has been a problem with the insurance markets. He said 6.5 million people are not signed up and have paid penalties while another 12 million received waivers from paying.
But, Faso said with ACA, coverages have improved through the exchanges and Medicaid.
“Are the new tax credits viable for people to purchase coverage for themselves and their family?”, Faso asked. “Are the Medicaid proposals ones which will meet the needs of the state, because I don’t want to see the people who have the expansion thrown off, and lastly, due to high risk pools that we are looking at establishing in this bill, are those pools going to be enough to meet cost of people that have extraordinarily high health costs.”
Democrats say to adopt the Republican plan would drive the costs of healthcare up dramatically for millions of Americans.
