NEW CITY – Rockland County Executive Edwin Day suspended the Brega organization from bidding on future county contracts and is moving to end some of its current contracts before they expire.
Day’s action came after the Federal Transit Administration had suspended Brega Transport and its related companies while owner Richard Brega faces federal corruption charges related to contracts with Rockland BOCES.
“We are strongly encouraging Brega to move to assign the contracts they have with the county,” Day said. “That is a practical matter.  We have to understand that Brega has the bus garage where the maintenance is done. We do not have our own garage, so it is not a matter of snapping our fingers. Brega is cooperating with us. They are working cooperatively with us. They are communicating and trying to assign contracts. This will hopefully protect the folks who are working there.”
Brega operates the Transport of Rockland and Tappan Zee Express bus services for the county, which carry close to 10,000 customers daily.  The company has over 300 employees.
