Odell: “… that shining beacon on the hill …”

CARMEL – As Putnam County’s economy continues to grow, it must convince young adult residents to live and work locally. In making that pronouncement in her annual State of the County address Thursday night, County Executive MaryEllen Odell declared 2017 “the year of the millennial.”
In her more than hour-long address, Odell said the state of the county is strong and must continue on its trajectory by developing transit oriented development, enhancing transportation opportunities and improving its IT services.
“To continue to make Putnam County that shining beacon on the hill, the place where freedom rings, where hopes and family are so important, the place where we are there for each other,” she said. “Putnam County is the jewel of the great State of New York. America should watch Putnam County because we are in prime time.”
Odell also said the safety and security of the county and its residents is of utmost importance and that includes the continuing fight against the scourge of drugs.
“Protecting our border is not about immigration; it is about drug trafficking,” she said.
