FORT MONTGOMERY – The man who jumped to his death from the Bear
Mountain Bridge on Thursday morning took a cab there.

State Police spokesman Trooper Steven Nevel identified the man as Dalton
Tompkins, 24, of Peekskill.

Tompkins told the female taxi driver to head over the bridge and as they
crossed, he instructed her to pull over at which point he ran over to
the side and jumped into the Hudson River.

His body was recovered by the Stony Point and Fort Montgomery marine patrols
and transported to Nyack Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
