NEWBURGH – A drug deal turned robbery led to the murder of one man and the arrest of a suspect in the City of Newburgh on Tuesday.
Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area or 25 Hasbrouck Street in the afternoon and they found Hubert Hines, 31, of Newburgh, who had been killed by an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigation by law enforcement led to the arrest of Fabian Corley, 24, of Newburgh within hours of the crime.  Corley was charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and several narcotics charges.
Preliminary investigation determined the incident was a drug deal gone bad in which both a BB gun and a semi-automatic handgun were used during the crime; both were recovered by police.  Also recovered were several pounds of marijuana, several grams of cocaine, suboxone pills and drug packaging material.
The investigation is continuing.
This is the second homicide in Newburgh this year. On February 12, Gevontay Owens-Grant was murdered.
