Police nab armed robbery suspect in one hour

TOWN OF FISHKILL – Police in Fishkill took no time at all to apprehend
a suspect in the knifepoint robbery of an overnight store clerk. Erik
Thompson, 38, of the hamlet of Wallkill, was arrested an hour after the
crime was committed.

One minute before midnight on Tuesday, the clerk at the Sunoco Quick Mart
at the intersection of Route 52 and Old Glenham Road in the Town of Fishkill
was jumped by a man armed with a knife. He demanded money from the register;
the victim complied and the robber took off toward Route 52.

Fishkill Town Police requested the assistance of the Wappingers Falls
Police K-9 unit and were able to track the suspect through the area of
Millholland Drive and by 1 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8 they located him
in a parking lot in the area of Route 52 and I-84 in the Town of Fishkill.

Thompson was charged with armed robbery and criminal possession of a weapon,
both as felonies.
