SCARSDALE – Westchester
County Executive Robert Astorino and other top county officials met with
over 20 executive directors of Westchester-based synagogues on Thursday
to discuss the recent bomb threats and hate crimes targeting the Jewish
community in the county and beyond, and the briefings he receives on an
ongoing basis from the local and national intelligence community.

Astorino briefed the religious leaders about county resources available
to them and suggested they get a direct threat assessment and vulnerability
study of their individual facilities.

Community concern should apply to all segments of society, he said.

“With the bomb threats to our Jewish community centers, we want,
not only our Jewish community, but our entire community of Westchester
to understand that law enforcement is going to do everything possible
to protect people, but also what people need to do to protect themselves,”
he said after the meeting.
There have been a number of bomb threats called in to Jewish community
centers in Westchester County alone in recent days prompting Astorino’s
meeting on Thursday.
