WASHINGTON – CSX Railroad has agreed to repair a portion of a retaining wall along Water Street in the City of Newburgh.
Local residents were concerned that a possible partial collapse could injure passersby or cause a train derailment.
CSX determined the wall is structural sound, but could use some repairs, for which they would pay. The railroad also committed to reviewing the remaining sections of wall to identify if other repairs should be made.
“Newburgh residents can breathe a sigh of relief today, as CSX has promptly inspected this site and confirmed the structural integrity of the Water Street retaining wall,” said Senator Charles Schumer, who along with Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney brought the retaining wall issue to the railroad.
