Sheriff’s deputy killed when police car hits utility pole

TOWN OF ASHLAND – A Greene County Sheriff’s deputy was killed
Tuesday morning when his marked police car ran off Route 23 in the Town
of Ashland and struck a utility pole.

State Police identified the victim as Deputy Kevin Haverly, 26, who was
pronounced dead at the scene of the 6 a.m. crash.

The accident occurred near the Windham town line as the deputy was driving
westbound.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Anyone who may
have witnessed it is asked to call State Police at Catskill at 518-622-8600.
