MID-HUDSON – Heavy rains, strong winds and lightning downed power
lines and trees Saturday evening, knocking out power in wide areas of
the Mid-Hudson.
By Sunday evening, the vast majority of those who lost power had it restored.

An estimated 30,000 customers were without electricity at one time or
another during the storm.

The storm barreled south east from Delaware County into Sullivan and down
through Orange as it traveled further south.

There were wide spread power outages with areas of the City of Middletown
and the Town of Wallkill without lights. Route 211 in the busy shopping
district of Wallkill was closed in both directions in the area of Wal-Mart
when a large power line was downed.

Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano also reported several trees down.

Telephone poles were snapped by the strong winds and some minor flooding
in areas.

In Orange and Rockland Utility territory, some 10,500 customers experienced
outages from the storm. Orange County had 8,299, Sullivan had 617, and
123 in Rockland.

In Central Hudson Gas and Electric territory, 15,700 customers were without
power, 6,598 were in Orange County, 4,321 in Dutchess, 900 in Columbia,
420 in Sullivan, 192 in Greene and three in Putnam.

In NYSEG territory, in Sullivan County, 2,961 customers lost power; in
Ulster County, 2,217 were out; in Orange County, 1,971; in Columbia County,
188; in Putnam, 79; and in Westchester, 75.
