MIDDLETOWN – All indications point to the City of Middletown on
a fast track to a rebirth.
In his annual State of the City address Tuesday evening, Mayor Joseph DeStefano noted that coming into the new year, the city had 1,000 new housing starts, a declining crime rate with community policing, and financial responsibility.
“We have also met the state tax cap three years in a row and that results in our taxpayers receiving the rebate check back from New York State,” the mayor said. The mayor noted the city’s bond rating is solid. “Moody’s comment was the city has strong financial management and we once again received an A-1 rating this January 2017.”
DeStefano also outlined the city’s downtown economic development including plans to use a $10 million state grant.
