SAUGERTIES – A former
Kingston city police officer has been arrested by Saugerties Police after
he was pulled over in the Village of Saugerties and flashed a Kingston
City Police officer’s badge and identified himself as a city cop.
The incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on February 15.

Nicholas Kozak, 37, of Saugerties was arrested following investigation
on Tuesday, February 21.

At the traffic stop at a gas station at 131 Ulster Avenue, Kozak became
irritated when he received a summons, so the officer called a shift supervisor
to the scene.

Kingston Police were later contacted only to learn Kozak, a former Kingston
officer, was no longer employed by the city and was not authorized to
display a Kingston Police badge, which was then confiscated by Saugerties
officers.

Kozak was charged with impersonating a police officer as a felony as well
as traffic charges and issued an appearance ticket returnable to local
court.
