GOSHEN – A Wappingers Falls man was sentenced in Orange County
Court to 16 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision
in connection with the August 2015 armed robbery of the Hudson Heritage
Federal Credit Union in the City of Newburgh.
Joshua DeJesus, 27, had pled guilty to armed robbery before Judge Robert
Freehill, who also ordered him to pay approximately $225,000 in restitution.
On the morning of August 24, 2015, DeJesus, along with another unidentified
man, waited outside the bank until the first two employees showed up to
open the building. The two robbers pulled a knife and gun and ordered
the employees to let them in. DeJesus made his way to the vault where
he took some $225,000 in cash.
The two bandits then fled the bank and hopped into a waiting car driven
by a third person, and then drove off.
DeJesus was apprehended by City of Newburgh and Town of Fishkill Police
on December 17, 2015. Fishkill Police were investigating other bank robberies
that occurred in Dutchess County.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said under the terms of
the plea agreement in court, DeJesus’ sentenced in Orange County
will run concurrently to any sentence he receives in connection with any
Dutchess County robbery convictions.
“The community will be safer during the 16 years that this defendant
is in prison,” said Hoovler.
