WOODBURY –  Assemblyman James Skoufis (D, Woodbury) won re-election last fall and with the post of Orange County executive up for grabs this coming November, the rumor mill has had Skoufis considering a run for that job.
He wanted to clear the air so he announced on Thursday that he will not run for county executive, noting that his current job has so many more topics than does the county job.
“The reality is that I am more interested in those issues,” Skoufis said. “The county’s purview is much narrower than the stakes and the issues that are dealt with at the state level that I have a significant voice in.”
He wouldn’t close the door on a run for another office sometime in the future.
Skoufis said that current County Executive, Republican Steven Neuhaus, is “a nice enough guy, but the county can be run much better.”
