FISHKILL – It has been 20 years since Richard Aderson, 47, of LaGrange was shot and killed following a fender-bender on I-84 in Fishkill.
At about 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 1997, Aderson called 911 to report he had just been shot.
Aderson, a former assistant superintendent for the Valley Central School District in Montgomery, had pulled over with the other driver after the minor collision. He said during a verbal altercation, the other man shot him and fled eastbound. He provided a description of the perpetrator and his car before he died.
The suspect was described as being a white man in his 40s to 50, with a medium complexion, about six feet tall and with a thin build.  He was said to have a receding hair line, a thin nose, and was wearing aviator-type eyeglasses.
He was driving a late model Jeep Cherokee, possibly 1997, that was believed to be green and may have had New Hampshire license plates.
Police have followed over 3,000 leads in the investigation, taking officers across New England.
Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Wappinger at 845-677-7300 and refer to SJS #3021797. All calls will be kept confidential.
