MONTICELLO – A Brooklyn man was sentenced by Sullivan County Court
Judge Michael McGuire on Friday to seven years in state prison and three
years of post-release supervision for the possession of heroin with intent
to sell it.

State troopers stopped a vehicle driven by Duane Norman, 52, on route
17 on June 8, 2016 in the Town of Mamakating.

After investigation, troopers discovered approximately 50 grams of heroin
in Norman’s possession.

Norman pled guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance and
admitted to possessing heroin with intent to sell it.

He was sentenced as a second felony offender, having a prior conviction
for felony drug sales in Manhattan in 2004.

This heroin was destined for sale on our streets and the good work of
the New York State Police disrupted that plan and resulted in the seizure
of a significant amount of heroin,” said District Attorney James
Farrell. “We will continue to vigorously prosecute those who possess
this poison with the intent to distribute it. Heroin and synthetic opioids
are a scourge and are destroying many lives and we will continue our efforts
to seize and remove from our streets the supply of these deadly drugs.”
