KINGSTON – An effort by
a member of the Ulster County Legislature to adopt a memorializing resolution
calling on Washington not to repeal or weaken the Affordable Care Act
failed in committee on Monday evening.
The Public Health and Social Services Committee voted four to one to
reject the move proposed by Democrat Legislator Jonathan Heppner.
Chairman Craig Lopez, a Republican, said three Republicans and one Democrat
voted against the move.
“The premise behind the resolution was for the legislature to not
support any repeal or weakening of the Affordable Care Act,” Lopez
said.
Heppner could seek to have the measure placed directly on the agenda of a regularly scheduled monthly meeting if he garners enough votes to support that.
Republicans have a 12-11 majority on the legislature.
