GOSHEN – The timing was unintentional. In the midst of the controversy over the Trump administration’s immigration freeze, Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus is poised to name a full-time county human rights director. The post will be new to the county.
Neuhaus said issues related to immigration will be the first issue to address.
“Issues of diversity and prejudice, or ways we can improve that; that is what the candidate will be doing,” the county exec said. “Though it hasn’t been very busy up until now, we intend to make that position a very pro-active and busy position. They are not going to just react to a situation where there is some type of injustice. They are going to be pro-active and go out on the streets and talk to students and different people to show how we can all collectively and collaboratively work together.”
Neuhaus expects to name the successful candidate for the job in the next week.
