KINGSTON – The City of
Kingston has been designated as a Clean Energy Community by the New York
State Energy Research and Development Authority. The designation recognizes
the city’s efforts to reduce energy use, cutting costs and driving
clean energy locally.

The city received the designation for completing four of 10 high-impact
clean energy actions identified by NYSERDA as part of the Clean Energy
Communities initiative.
The designation gives Kingston an opportunity to apply for up to $100,000
to be used toward additional clean energy projects, with no local cost
share.

The high-energy actions taken by the city include Clean Fleets with the
purchase of two plug-in vehicles; Benchmarking for adopting energy benchmarking
requirements for certain municipal buildings; Climate Smart Communities
Certification; and Energy NY Finance establishing a sustainable energy
loan program.

“The City of Kingston has a track record for being a model of sustainability
for communities across New York and we are proud to be New York’s
first city to be declared a Clean Energy Community,” said Mayor
Steven Noble.
