Kingston, Yonkers win Restore NY grants

ALBANY – The cities of
Yonkers and Kingston have been awarded grants through Round Four of the
state’s Restore NY initiative.

Kingston will receive $500,000, which will be used for two projects, said
Mayor Steven Noble.
“This funding will be used to knock down and demolition the bowling
alley to prepare the site. The other allows the city to take three of
its vacant, abandoned properties it has taken for back taxes renovate,
rejuvenate and get into the hands of homeowners who are interested in
getting into new housing,” he said.

The bowling alley site on Cedar Street will be developed into 57 mixed
income rental units and commercial space for not-for-profits a groups.
It is all part of RUPCO’s “Energy Square” initiative.

In Yonkers, the city will receive $2 million for the redevelopment of
three vacant buildings in the Wheeler Bock of the downtown including a
storefront façade.
