Old bridge sits in the water after being imploded

HIGH FALLS – Explosives plunger in hand, Governor Cuomo was in
High Falls Wednesday morning to blow up the old bridge on Route 213. It
will make way for a new structure that will be safer, offer better views
and a pedestrian pathway. He noted the old 85-year-old structure still
had wood piles.

Roads and bridges are the veins and arteries of the economy – “that’s
how you move; that’s how you move goods, and if you overlook the
infrastructure, you do it at your own peril,” he told local government
officials gathered for the event.

The governor said he has undertaken the “most robust” transportation
infrastructure upgrades in state history with a new Tappan Zee Bridge,
rebuilds of JFK and LaGuardia airports and improvements to upstate airports,
bridges and roads. The state has another $2 billion for infrastructure
in the proposed budget.

And he said he is happy to hear that Washington is proposing more spending
for infrastructure, including a Senate plan to spend $1 trillion for infrastructure.

Cuomo said he has talked to President Trump about his desire to spend
more on infrastructure; “that is welcome news to us here in New
York,” said the governor.

And there is no better state in which to spend the money than New York,
said the governor.

“What we want them to hear in Washington is if they are going to
invest money in this country in infrastructure, they should invest in
the states that can actually get it done,” he said.
Pointing to the new TZ Bridge, Cuomo said New York is tops on that list.
