WHITE PLAINS – A Westchester County grand jury indicted a White Plains woman in connection with a crash on West Hartsdale Road in Greenburgh on October 26, 2016 where she struck a car head-on, killing its two occupants.
Killed in the crash were Henrietta and Carmelo Sbezzi, both 81.
Michelle Bonet, 42, was charged with three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of manslaughter, one count each of aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of drugs or of alcohol and drugs.
The indictment alleges that Bonet was driving a minivan at 2:15 p.m. when witnesses observed her crossing over the double yellow line several times. Just prior to the fatal crash, she nearly collided head-on with a vehicle being driven by a 17-year-old student coming from Maria Regina High School.
A few minutes later, Bonet, who was speeding, crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and collided head-on with a car driven by Carmelo Sbezzi. His wife was in the front passenger’s seat.
Bonet and the victims were transported to Westchester Medical Center where the husband and wife died.
Two blood samples taken from Bonet revealed blood-alcohol content of .29 and .25 respectively. The testing revealed an amount of Diazepam or Valium.
If convicted, Bonet faces a minimum of one to four years to a maximum of eight and one-third to 25 years in state prison.  She remains incarcerated in the Westchester County Jail.
