PORT JERVIS – Orange and Rockland Utilities is scheduled to begin a new natural gas main replacement project in Port Jervis on January 30. The project is designed to help improve service in the city by upgrading a portion of the low-pressure natural gas distribution system, which is currently comprised of cast-iron mains, to a high-pressure system, which uses modern high-density, plastic mains.
The $915,000 project will replace some 2,500 feet of the power pressure
gas mains, including 34 gas services to buildings, as part of a large-scale
effort by O&R to eliminate all low pressure gas mains in Port Jervis.
The affected customers have been notified of the project.
Contractor Titanic will be replacing the gas main on Kingston Avenue between Beach Road and Hamilton Street, between Glass Street and Kingston Avenue. Work will be performed between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for approximately 12 weeks.
