New Life Pentacostal Church

Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church

MID-HUDSON – The New York Landmarks Conservancy awarded Sacred Sites grants to two area churches – the New Life Pentecostal Church in Newburgh and Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kingston. Each will receive a $10,000 grant.
The Newburgh church will use the funds to replace the roof and the Kingston church will help fund asbestos removal and roof replacement at the attached education wing.
New Life Pentecostal Church on Broadway in the City of Newburgh was constructed in 1910 for the Salvation Army as is still reflected in the Salvation Army’s logo in the parapet. It later served as a public health clinic before being converted to a church some 40 years ago. It was purchased by the New Life Pentecostal congregation in 2004, when the congregation moved from a nearby commercial storefront.
Located in the predominantly residential Chestnut Street Historic District of Kingston, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church occupies a Gothic-revival style building constructed in 1880.
The painted brick building features a central tower, broached spire, and gothic arched stained glass windows and is flanked by its 1870, two-story, painted brick education building, originally the church parsonage.
