YONKERS – Five people were injured, none seriously, when what police said was a Bobcat machine fell through the floor of the rooftop parking garage on the National Wholesale Liquidators’ store in Yonkers just before noon on Wednesday.
Five people, including the machine operator, sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The machine was on the rooftop garage performing repairs.  The device fell through a 30-foot by 40-foot section of the parking garage floor crashing right into the store.
“We have conducted a preliminary search and a secondary search of the premises utilizing thermal imaging, video surveillance and call outs and at this time we have no reason to believe that there is anyone else in the business at this time,” said Police Chief Charles Gardner. “We cannot be 100 percent sure until we remove the debris. At this time, the building is unstable; it is in an unsafe condition and we cannot get in there to conduct a very thorough search until we can remove the debris.”
That could take a couple of days.
A total of 18 employees were working at the time.
