Poughkeepsie stabbing victim’s condition improves

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Hyde
Park woman stabbed in the neck early Wednesday morning in the City of
Poughkeepsie has been taken off the critical condition list at an area
hospital as she is improving, Poughkeepsie Police said Thursday.

The 39-year-old woman was stabbed in the neck in front of 130 Mansion
Street at around 2:30 a.m. by Steven Vaughan, 32, of Poughkeepsie. Det.
Lt. Matthew Clark said the incident was not being investigated as a domestic
violence case.

Following the assault, Vaughan took off in a car over the Mid-Hudson Bridge
where he collided head-on with another car. Both he and the driver of
the other vehicle, Mark Ashby, 50, of Accord, died instantly. A passenger
in the Ashby car was injured.
