NEWBURGH – The State Health Department has set 11 dates in January to continue voluntary blood testing for Newburgh area residents concerned about their past exposure to PFOS and other perfluorinated chemicals from the city’s public drinking water supply.
Washington Lake was found to contain the carcinogenic chemical PFOS last year at which time the reservoir was taken out of service. Residents are now getting their water from the New York City Catskill Aqueduct at a cost paid for by the state since it was determined the source of the chemical was the nearby New York Air National Guard Base at Stewart Airport.
Blood testing will be conducted at the Cornerstone Family Healthcare
headquarters at 147 Lake Street in Newburgh, on the following dates:
January 5, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 18, 20, 23, 26, 29.
Persons interested in having their blood tested are encouraged to pre-register for an appointment by calling 518-402-7950 or by emailing BEOE@health.ny.gov . Day, evening and weekend appointments are available and more dates will be added based on demand and feedback from the community.
