POUGHKEEPSIE – Third Ward
Poughkeepsie Councilwoman Lorraine Johnson was injured in a fall on Monday.
Council Vice Chair Natasha Cherry accompanied her to the hospital.
With both absent, four items were deferred from Monday night’s reorganization
agenda.
The council, hopefully back at full force next week, will vote on chairman, vice-chairman, and the majority and minority leaders as part of next Monday’s first regular council meeting of 2017.
Current Chairman Chris Petsas announced at the final meeting of 2016 that he would not seek another term as chair.  He’ll stay on as chair for one more week.
The council did vote on the 10 routine reorganization agenda items, including appointment of corporation counsel.
Paul Ackerman will continue. Mayor Robert Rolison said Ackerman has done exceptional work.
“All of the other aspects of what this city does, whether it has to do with legal issues, operational issues and running an office of five people, so I wholeheartedly ask you to confirm the appointment of Paul Ackerman to continue as corporation counsel for the City of Poughkeepsie.”
A year ago, Ackerman was appointed to a one-year term.  This continues him in that position for another year.
The council vote was unanimous.
