Prendergast

NEW YORK – MTA Chairman and CEO Tom Prendergast announced his retirement early in the new year. His career with the MTA has spanned more than 25 years including the last 3 ½ in his current post.
As head of the MTA, his oversight included that of the Metro-North Railroad system. The chairwoman of the Metro-North Committee, said his will be tough shoes to fill.
Susan Metzger said Prendergast’s knowledge of transportation, be
it rail or subway, made him a very effective leader.
“He also understood that Orange County was underserved and was very supportive in helping to get more infrastructure and funding for studies and he is really going to be a loss,” Metzger said.  “However, I understand fully it is a rough, rough job and this last year has been particularly trying because of the different issues that Metro-North has had and also getting the Second Avenue Subway up and running, which he did marvelously.”
That subway line in New York City went partially online this past weekend. He termed the opening of the Second Avenue Subway, decades in planning and construction, “a crowning achievement for the MTA.”
