NEWBURGH – Four teenagers – two were 16, the others were 15 – were arrested early Thursday for allegedly robbing a Newburgh cabbie at gunpoint.
Newburgh City officers were executing a search warrant in the area of Benkard Avenue at 6:20 a.m.  when they heard a shot fired in the neighborhood.
Officers spotted a taxicab fleeing the area. The driver was located and told police he had been robbed at gunpoint on Renwick Street by four masked men, one of whom fired a single shot from a rifle. The driver was not injured and the vehicle was not struck during the incident when he was called to pick up a fare and the four got into his cab.
During the robbery, cash, the taxi radio and cell phone were taken from the victim.
Detectives and officers with the aid of a K-9 unit tracked the suspects to 15 Liberty Street where police found a .22 caliber rifle and the stolen items.
The suspects, whose names were not released because of their ages, were charged with armed robbery.
