GOSHEN – Dana Distributors,
the Budweiser Beer distributor in the counties of Orange, Sullivan and
Rockland counties, will provide its Alert Cab program again on New Year’s
Eve.

Participating taxicab companies – nine in Orange County, seven in
Sullivan County and four in Rockland County – will provide transportation
from a bar within 10 miles of a patron’s home if the individual
feels he or she is too tipsy to drive themselves.

“It’s all about saving lives,” said Dana General Manager
Thomas Kennedy. Dana’s slogan is “be responsible” when
drinking.

State Police Troop F Commander, Major Joseph Tripodo “implored”
the public to drink responsibly.

Orange County Police Chiefs Association President William Worden, the
Port Jervis city chief, said revelers should have a plan – either
a designated driver or using the Alert Cab system.

“if you don’t have a plan, if you don’t drive sober,
we will pull you over. We will give you a ride but it won’t in the
back of a taxi. It will in the back of a patrol car to keep our roadways
safe,” he said.
DA Hoovler said Orange County was teaming up with Dana to actually go
to bars before major holidays to remind them about responsible drinking.
