MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown will spend $31,000 to rehabilitate the second-floor council chambers at City Hall.
The necessity for the work came to light with a leaking roof and damaged ceiling tiles.
Common Council President Miguel Rodrigues said this will be the first full-blown makeover of the chamber since the 1950s.
“We have replaced the carpet once in a while but anything else has just been painting and cleaning and that’s it, so we are just redoing it,” Rodrigues said. “We are also doing some more improvements in City Hall and in 2017 we plan on moving on to the firehouses and the senior center.”
The council chamber upgrades will include 40 new chairs, another 18 chairs for the caucus room, restoring the wood desks, railing, gate, window moldings, floor molding, doors and frames and clock in the chamber.
